(Henry County, Va.) – A 6-year-old was killed in a sledding accident in Axton late Thursday morning.

Virginia State Police say a 2006 Ford Fusion was traveling north in the 4400 block of Old Liberty Drive when the boy slid into the roadway. The child was on a sled, which traveled underneath the vehicle.

The boy was taken to SOVAH Health-Martinsville, where he died.

State Police say the driver, a 73-year-old Henry County man, stopped immediately and remained at the scene. The driver was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation but no charges will be filed.

The accident happened just after 11 a.m. Thursday.
