DANVILLE, Va. – Police confirmed Monday that an arrest has been made in a Sunday shooting that left a Danville woman dead.

The suspect’s name was not released and the person has not been jailed on a murder charge. Police said in a news release that the individual was jailed on an “unrelated charge” and that the person’s name will be released if the individual is charged in the homicide.

Police were called to 820 Buford Street around 3:20 a.m. Sunday. When officers arrived, they found 43-year-old Lashanda Mecole Deshazo dead of a gunshot wound.

Investigators haven’t commented on a motive in the shooting but have said this was not a random act and that Deshazo was apparently the target of the shooter.

The homicide is the fifth this year in Danville.
