DANVILLE, Va. – A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect through 10:00 tonight and Blacksburg meteorologist Robert Beasley says the Danville area can expect anywhere from a half-inch to one inch of snow from this system. A light dusting of snow is expected in the northern end of Pittsylvania County, with up to one inch in the southeast portion of the county.

Temperatures will remain above freezing Thursday, so any accumulation should be limited to grassy areas and bridges. But Beasley cautions that conditions will change overnight as the temperature drops to the mid-20s. Re-freezing is expected and that could make driving hazardous during the morning commute on Friday. Temperatures will warm up to the lower 40s Friday afternoon.

He says the heaviest snowfall is forecast for the I-40 corridor. Raleigh and areas to the east could see 5-to-6 inches of snow.

The storm is expected to exit the Danville area late Thursday night or early Friday morning
