HENRY COUNTY, Va. – The Henry County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a homicide after a body was discovered behind a home on Sunday.

The normally quiet neighborhood was shaken by the sound of gunfire. The initial call came at 1:30 a.m. as shots fired in the 300 block of Arrowhead Circle in the Spencer community, adjacent to Route 58. Deputies searched but found nothing.

They got another 911 call around 8:20 Sunday morning after a body was found in the back yard of a home in the 400 block of the same street.

Deputies recovered the body of a young, black male dressed in dark clothing. He was dead of gunshot wounds. The victim has not been identified. The body has been taken to the medical examiner’s office in Roanoke to determine his identity and confirm the cause of death.

The sheriff’s office said the shooting occurred between two houses in Spencer. Investigators are obtaining search warrants and interviewing neighbors about the shooting death.
