ORANGEBURG, S.C. — A father and his two young daughters from Franklin County died in a head-on collision with a tractor-trailer truck in Orangeburg, S.C.
Authorities say the family of five was returning home from a funeral in Florida at the time of the crash.
The Highway Patrol said Kevin Thomas, of Mt. Airy, S.C., was driving the tractor-trailer east on I-26 near Orangeburg Monday when he crossed over the median and hit the Thomas’ van head-on. Investigators believe speed was a factor in the crash.
37-year-old Thomas Rusgrove and his two daughters Esther Rusgrove, 14, and Jennie Ruth Rusgrove, 11, died at the scene. His wife, 37-year-old Leslie Rusgrove, is in critical condition. Their son Ethan Rusgrove, 16, is in stable condition. Leslie Rusgrove was airlifted from the scene.
The family is from Franklin County but had moved to North Carolina.
