(Campbell County, VA) – Tony Kidd who has already plead guilty to shooting a police officer could be looking at a more severe charge after a preliminary hearing Tuesday.  Prosecutors in the case have dropped a first-degree murder charge in the death of Robin Chenault due to speedy trial rights.

Kidd went on a rampage back in October attacking Chenault and her husband Dale after the couple had assisted Kidd’s girlfriend at the time Stephanie McKenna in getting to safety after an assault by Kidd.  He was quoted at multiple times saying “You ruined my life” after attacking both victims with a sledge hammer.  As Dale Chenault reached for a gun Kidd disarmed him and used the weapon to shoot the couple killing Robin.

As it stands now Kidd is facing multiple life sentences on a litany of other charges related to an officer involved shooting. The Commonwealth Attorney is considering capital murder charges to replace the first-degree murder charge and if that happens Kidd could be sentenced to death.  Prosecutors hope to bring the new charge before a grand jury in May.
