(Danville, Va.) — Carl Ray Kennedy was sentenced to six years in prison Wednesday for abducting his 7-month-old daughter from outside a Danville convenience store last June.

The 51-year-old was the object of a massive manhunt that ended two days later with his arrest in Randleman, North Carolina. His daughter, Emma Grace Kennedy, was unharmed.

Kennedy was sentenced in Danville Circuit Court to 5 years on each felony charge and 12 months for the misdemeanor assault charge. 20 years of the term was suspended, giving Kennedy an active jail sentence of six years.

He was charged with kidnapping of a child by a family member, attempted abduction by force or intimidation, child abuse with disregard for life, grand larceny and possession of a deadly weapon.

Kennedy still faces federal charges for crossing state lines following the June 3, 2018 abduction.
