(Danville, Va.) – A kitchen fire started after a power outage on Hamilton Street.
Danville firefighters were called to 116 Hamilton Street about 8:00 Sunday night and found smoke showing from the eaves of the house. The fire was confined to the kitchen, which suffered heavy damage.
The occupants weren’t home at the time and most of their belongings were spared.
The fire marshal determined that the stove was left on while the family left the home because of a power outage caused by high winds. The fire started after power was restored.
The occupants are staying with relatives while repairs are made.
The remainder of the house suffered smoke damage in the fire.
