(Martinsville, VA) – Just before noon on Friday someone driving near the 1000 block of Country Club Drive alerted authorities to a structure fire with what looked like a person trapped inside.  Martinsville Fire and EMS responded to the blaze at the home of Tom and Lynn Fitzgibbons.  During the search of the site crews found the the body of who they believe to be Lynn Fitzgibbons in the room where the initial blaze is thought to have begun.  The identity of the victim is still waiting confirmation from the medical examiner.

Martinsville Fire Chief and Fire Marshal Ted Anderson when asked for comment said, “We would like to ask the community to share in our thoughts and prayers for the well-respected family of the Fitzgibbons during this tragic event,”

The fire appears to be accidental but the fire marshal’s investigation is ongoing.
