(Bluefield, Va.) (AP) – A $5,000 reward has been offered for the man who shot and seriously wounded a Virginia police officer who was making a traffic stop.

State police say a Bluefield, Virginia, officer was shot after stopping a 2008 Toyota Yaris for an equipment violation on Route 460 shortly before midnight Saturday. Authorities say a passenger in the vehicle, 25-year-old Danquale Maurice Gray, of Bluefield, W. Va. began shooting at the officer. Police were continuing to search for Gray on Sunday after he fled the scene.

Gray is wanted for attempted capital murder of a police officer. The wounded police officer is still being treated for serious, but non-life threatening, injuries at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
