(Danville, Va.) — A fire at 1079 Halifax Road was under control in about thirty minutes. Crews responded about  1:30 Sunday afternoon and found heavy smoke coming from around the roof line.

Firefighters entered the structure and attacked the fire in the attic.  Once the fire was out, crews remained on the scene for 90 minutes checking for hidden fires and assisting the fire marshal with an investigation. It was determined that the fire started in some discarded smoking materials.

Three engines, a ladder truck a safety officer and a battalion chief responded.

The house was  not occupied and no one was injured, Damage was listed as moderate.
