Log truck dumps load, blocks traffic

(Danville, Va.) – Traffic had to be rerouted for several hours Tuesday afternoon after a logging truck overturned and dumped its load at a busy Danville intersection.

The accident happened about 3:30 Tuesday afternoon at the intersection of Piney Forest Road and North Main Street near the National Guard Armory.

The driver of the semi-truck told police a car cut him off and he was forced to swerve to avoid striking the vehicle. He was not injured but his load of logs spilled, forcing emergency responders to detour traffic until the rig could be righted and the logs removed. The wreck also took out a power pole and a transformer.

At last report, no charges had been filed against the driver, who was hauling the logs from Ridgeway to Brookneal.
