(Danville, Va.) — Danville firefighters were able to contain a fire to an attached garage at a home on Melrose Drive Monday.
Units were sent to 423 Melrose just just before 10 am. Smoke and flames were visible from the garage area of the two-story house. Crews made an interior attack while another crew searched the structure for occupants. It was quickly determined that the house was under renovation and was not occupied.
The fire was confined to the garage portion of the home, with the rest of the structure suffering heat and smoke damage.
Three engines, a ladder truck and support personnel were on the scene for about 90 minutes.
The fire marshal’s office determined that the blaze started with some discarded smoking materials.
No injuries were reported and damage to the structure was moderate.
