(Blairs, Va.) — One man is dead and another is in custody following an afternoon shooting in the Blairs community.

Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched the Kangaroo Mart off Rt. 29 in Blairs about 1 p.m. Tuesday after receiving a report of shots fired. On arrival, they found a man dead in the parking lot.

Investigators say the two men got into an argument on the highway, then pulled off into the gas station parking lot where the dispute escalated. A suspect is in custody but neither the victim nor the shooter has been identified.

The homicide is the fifth in Pittsylvania County in a week.
