(Danville, Va.) — A 33-year-old Danville woman has been charged with neglect and homicide in connection to the death of her 71-year-old grandmother.

Brenda Ann Gomez-Lazarski was named in grand jury indictments  in the August 8, 2018 death of 71-year-old Dorothy Jean George.

Danville Police and Life Saving Crew responded to a report of George having a heart attack just before 10:00 that night. On arrival, George was pronounced dead on the scene.

Gomez-Lazarski was the granddaughter and caretaker of George, who suffered from various health issues related to conditions at the home they shared. George was unable to take care of herself and an insulin-dependant diabetic and was dependent upon Gomez-Lazarski for her care.

Warrants indicate her bed sores were untreated and that she had not seen a doctor for more than a year at the time of her death.

Gomez-Lazarski was arrested without incident and is being held in the Danville City Jail with no bond. She made her initial court appearance Thursday.
