(Rockingham County, N.C.) – Rockingham County Sheriff’s investigators have charged the son of an 87-year-old man with his father’s murder.

61-year-old Johnnie Lee Dillard was arrested Thursday and charged with murder in the death of Jimmie Lee Dillard.

The elder Dillard was reported missing to the Reidsville Police Department on Wednesday at around 5:00 p.m. His body was recovered but positive identification is still pending investigation by the North Carolina Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Both lived at 226 Pierce Lane in Reidsville, where Johnnie Lee Dillard was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. Authorities have not said how his father died but are carrying the case as a homicide.

Dillard is being held in the Rockingham County Detention Facility under no bond and is scheduled to appear in Wentworth District Court on Thursday.
The Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation is ongoing.
