Authorities have identified a man whose body was found in the Dan River in North Carolina on Sunday. According to the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office, on Sunday at around 5 pm, Deputies responded to a report of a possible person in the river near the bank from individuals kayaking.

The location was also reported to be near the boat landing located on Bethlehem Church Rd. in Eden. The body of a deceased male was retrieved from the river bank area lodged against debris. The body was sent to the NC Office of the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office for examination and identification.

The Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office learned that on May 11, 2026, around 6:30 pm family members had reported Jerome Jermaine Kellam missing to the Eden Police Department.

On May 12, 2026, the NC Office of the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office notified the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office that they had identified the body as being that of 48-year-old Jerome Jermaine Kellam, of Eden.

The cause of death, as advised by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office at this time is indicative of drowning.
