Virginia State Police will conduct a coordinated highway safety enforcement initiative, “Operation Road Watch,” along the Route 29 corridor from Greene County to the North Carolina state line, covering approximately 156 miles.

The operation is scheduled for Saturday, April 11, 2026, and will coincide with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s distracted driving campaign, as well as Virginia’s statewide “Put the Phones Away or Pay” mandatory enforcement period.

The initiative will include Virginia State Police patrol areas covering Greene, Albemarle, Nelson, Amherst, Campbell, and Pittsylvania counties, as well as the City of Lynchburg. These areas will work alongside partnering local law enforcement agencies throughout the corridor.

The enforcement effort will focus on reducing distracted driving and improving roadway safety through high-visibility patrols and targeted enforcement along Route 29.

This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to enhance highway safety and reduce crashes caused by distracted driving.
