(Pittsylvania County, Va.) — Pittsylvania County is the latest Virginia locality to file suit against 15 drug manufacturers and distributors.

In a lawsuit filed Wednesday, the county seeks $50 million to cover costs associated with the opioid addiction problem in Southside Virginia.

More than a half dozen cities and counties in the region have filed similar lawsuits and are represented by the same law firm. They contend the drug makers violated numerous state laws and should be held accountable.

The suit contends the manufacturers and distributors misrepresented the truth about the addiction risks of the medications they sold.
