At approximately 6:30 pm this evening, special agents with Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation Appomattox Field Office took Charles A. Stokes, 44, of Lunenburg, Va., into custody without incident at a residence in Kenbridge, Va. Stokes is currently being held at the Meherrin River Regional Jail in Alberta, Va., on charges of aggravated malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

A manhunt is underway after a shooting involving a off-duty police officer. The Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation Appomattox Field Office has obtained two felony warrants for aggravated malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony against Charles A. Stokes, 44, of Lunenburg, Va.
At 2:43 pm on Sunday, law enforcement in Lunenburg County were notified of a woman that was shot inside her vehicle in the county. The woman was taken to an area hospital. Stokes is believed to have fired into the vehicle multiple times as part of a domestic incident before driving away from the scene.
The car Stokes was driving was recovered later Sunday at a business in Henderson, NC. A second vehicle 2007 silver Honda Civic with Virginia plates TGL 9143 was also reported stolen from the same location. Stokes is believed to now be driving the Honda Civic.
Stokes is described as white, six-foot-three-inches, and weighing 230 pounds. He has green eyes and brown hair. Stokes should be considered armed and dangerous. Stokes is a member of the Town of Kenbridge Police Department but was off duty at the time of shooting.
