Here is the situation report for Danville at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday:

  • Dangerously cold overnight temperatures remain the main concern. The current temperature is 36 degrees, with a low tonight of 18 degrees. Wind chills will be single digits.
  • The Temporary Relief & Counseling Center (TRCC) at 625 Shelton St. is operating a 24-hour warming center for any resident or visitor in need of shelter.
  • The Police Department reports six weather-related accidents today.
  • Public Works crews continued working in residential neighborhoods today, spreading sand and, when temperatures allowed, plowing. Crews continue to work a round-the-clock operation. During periods of snow and sleet, Public Works prioritizes plowing main roads to ensure safe and efficient travel on these primary routes. Once the main roads are adequately cleared, the focus shifts to collector streets, and subsequently, to neighborhood streets. This approach ensures that the most heavily trafficked roads are made passable first. However, the effectiveness of plowing can be significantly influenced by both timing and temperature. When conditions make plowing difficult or impossible, sand and salt are spread on top of the ice to improve traction and facilitate the eventual removal of snow. This method is especially effective once the temperature rises sufficiently for plowing to resume.
  •   Danville Utilities reports six power outages affecting six customers.
