The National Weather Service in Blacksburg has issued a Winter Storm Watch across the southside. The watch is in effect from 7 am Saturday to 1 pm Monday.

Forecasters say that 8 to 14 inches of snow are possible with the storm. Travel could be very difficult to impossible and the hazardous conditions could impact the Monday morning commute.

People are urged to stay indoors until conditions improve. If you must go outside, dress in layers.

Virginia State Police is urging people to prepare now for winter weather and monitor official updates for timing and details. Plan for possible power outages, dangerous travel conditions, and extreme cold.
