A local lawmaker has introduced legislation at the state level to help support firefighters and first responders. Last week State Senator Tammy Mulchi introduced Senate Bill 80.

The legislation is aimed at establishing the Virginia Fire Personnel and Equipment Grant Program to strengthen local fire and emergency services across the Commonwealth. The bill aims to provide additional resources for hiring and retaining firefighters, improving emergency response capabilities, and ensuring communities have the equipment and personnel needed to protect public safety.

The bill is currently under consideration in the Senate Committee on General Laws and Technology. Mulchi represents District 9 in the State Senate which covers Danville, Pittsylvania County and Halifax County among others.
