A man died in Rockingham County over the weekend after suffering severe burns. According to the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office, at 12:11 am on Saturday, deputies responded to a reported death at 374 Brushy Mountain Rd in Stoneville.

Once on scene it was learned that 47-year-old Kenny Dean Dalton had passed away in his backyard and had sustained severe burns. It was determined that Dalton had obtained his injuries after falling into an active fire pit. 

The Rockingham County Medical examiner responded to the scene, and at this time it is believed there was no foul play involved.  However, due to the nature of this death investigation, and pending autopsy results, this incident is still under investigation at this time.
