Update: The Danville Police Department has identified and arrested James Chappell, 61, following yesterday’s brandishing and assault incident. The department thanks the public for their assistance.

The Danville Police Department is seeking the public’s help identifying and locating the suspect in an assault and battery and brandishing of a firearm incident.

On Thursday, October 16, at 12:58PM, officers responded to a business in the 200 block of Main Street for a report of an assault that included the suspect producing a handgun. The two victims reported that a black male in an orange coverall suit, black hat and glasses approached them, upset that he believed they laughed at him.

The suspect made verbal threats, produced a handgun, and struck one of the victims before leaving the immediate area on foot. No shots were fired, and the victim’s injuries were minor.

Police ask the public to review the attached surveillance photographs, and to contact officers immediately if he is known.

The suspect is believed to be armed with a firearm, so please contact law enforcement with any information on his whereabouts and do not approach him.
