A pedestrian was killed after being hit by a school bus in Halifax County on Friday. 

According to the Gazette-Virginian, the accident occurred in the parking lot of the Prizery at 700 Bruce Street at 11:23 am on Friday.

There were no students on the school bus at the time of the accident. Law enforcement is investigating the accident and the identity of the person killed in the accident has not been released at this time.

Halifax County Schools said in a statement on Friday that school counselors are available to support any students or staff who may need assistance in the days ahead.
