Virginia State Police is investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred Wednesday at 2:02 pm at the intersection of Route 501 and Stage Coach Road in Halifax County.

A 2003 Dodge Ram was heading southbound on Route 501 when it was unable to avoid a 2016 Chrysler 300, which was travelling eastbound on Stage Coach Road.  There are stop signs located at the intersection on Old Stage Road but not on Route 501.

The driver of the Chrysler, Brenda B. Pannell, 71, of Brookneal, Va., died at the scene.  Pannell was not wearing a seatbelt. The driver of the Ram, Michael W. Ferrell, 55, of Vernon Hill, Va., suffered minor injuries. Ferrell was also not wearing a seatbelt.

The crash remains under investigation.
