A Heat Advisory will be in effect today for most of the southside from 11 am to 8 pm. The National Weather Service in Blacksburg says a Heat Index of 105 to 109 degrees is expected for at least two consecutive hours during the valid time of the advisory. 

The Heat Advisory is in effect for Danville and South Boston, as well as Pittsylvania, Halifax, and Caswell Counties. An Extreme Heat Watch is in effect today for Henry and Rockingham Counties, as well as Martinsville and Reidsville.

An Extreme Heat Watch will be in effect from Tuesday morning to Tuesday night for the entire southside. An extreme heat watch means a heat index of at least 110 degrees is possible during the hours of the watch.

The National Weather Service is advising to drink plenty of fluids and stay cool as much as possible. Also don’t leave children or pets in unattended vehicles.
