A couple of Danville City Councilmen will go head to head in November’s election. In the Primary Elections yesterday, Danville City Councilman Madison Whittle defeated Vanessa Scarce for the republican nomination for the 49th district house seat. Whittle won by over 2,000 votes and had over 85% of the vote.

On the Democratic side, Danville City Councilman Dr. Gary Miller beat Jasmine Lipscomb for the 49th district nomination with about 53% of the vote.

The results set up a November showdown between the two Danville City Councilman who are vying to replace Danny Marshall in the 49th district seat. Marshall announced his retirement earlier this year after serving the house of delegates since 2002.

Jay Jones won the Democratic nomination for Attorney General by beating Shannon Taylor. Jones will face current Attorney General Jason Miyares in the November election.

The Democratic Party of Virginia also announced that State Senator Ghazala Hashmi won the nomination for Lieutenant Governor. Hashmi won the tight race over five other candidates including former Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney. Hashmi will face current Lieutenant Governor Winsome Earle-Sears in the November election.
