The Community Foundation of the Dan River Region has announced its annual Competitive Grant Cycle opens Sunday, June 1. The Competitive Grant Cycle is open to nonprofit organizations and approved government entities within the service region, which includes the city of Danville, Pittsylvania County, and Caswell County, NC. For the first time, nonprofit organizations and government entities in Halifax County are also able to apply.

The Community Foundation strongly encourages all organizations to begin considering and planning their application now, so all information is provided in time. This year, The Foundation has a new software system for grant applications. The deadline to submit all applications is Friday, July 25.

Nonprofit organizations must have a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status and be in good standing in order to apply for grant funding. Organizations that may apply include churches, schools, agencies and local government departments (social services, parks and recreation, etc.). This funding will be awarded in January 2026 for projects to be completed within the calendar year. Applicants must apply online via the website www.cfdrr.org/grants.

During its 2025 Competitive Grant Cycle, The Foundation awarded a total of $946,433 in grants to 64 agencies serving the region. These grants supported animal services, arts and culture, community development, health and wellness, education and youth, human services and emergency services.
