Averett University has announced staffing cuts. On Friday the school announced that 15 jobs have been eliminated.

The school says the moves are an effort to create financial stability and are part of the long term plan toward fiscal responsibility. The job cuts include administrative faculty, full-time and part-time employees.

In a statement Averett says the reduction will decrease annual payroll expenses and better align the university staffing with the size of the school. Averett President Dr. David Joyce said the moves came after much analysis and careful consideration.

“After much analysis and careful consideration, this reduction in workforce is the next step in addressing Averett’s budgetary challenges. These types of difficult measures, while very painful, are necessary to safeguard Averett’s future and to ensure the institution’s long-term success. While the university has experienced a very challenging financial period in its 166-year history, our commitment to serving our students and this community remains steadfast,” said Averett President Rev. Dr. David C. Joyce.

Some university areas are reorganizing to ensure efficiency while maintaining what is most critical to campus operations and to student success. The university continues to explore additional avenues to reduce expenses.
