The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a scam. The sheriff’s office received a citizen complaint stating that he had received a phone call from someone identifying himself as an agent working for the Federal Government.

This caller proceeded to tell the citizen that he had missed a Federal Grand Jury and had to pay $500 through Venmo and if he didn’t pay the $500 immediately, he would be issued a warrant for his arrest and would be incarcerated for 3 days.

If you receive any type of call like this, please notify Halifax County Sheriff’s Office or local law enforcement. The Federal Government will not notify you by telephone. They will issue official court documents by mail or other official means.
