The Danville Police Officer that was injured during a shooting on Monday has now been released from Carilion Hospital in Roanoke. The Danville Police Department says the officer is back home and recovering.

The officer was injured when a man that was suspected of a hit and run fired shots at the officer unprovoked. The officer returned fire striking the suspect multiple times.

The identities of the officer and the suspect have still not been identified due to the department’s policy of withholding the names for 72 hours. Virginia State Police are investigating the shooting.
