(Bedford County, Va.) — A family vacation turned tragic Thursday when a two-year-old boy drowned in Smith Mountain Lake. The body of August Farley was found near a dock located at the end of Rosewood Lane in the Huddleston area hours after he went missing.
The boy’s body was recovered from the lake by rescue divers Thursday afternoon, ending an extensive search involving dozens of volunteers from multiple agencies.
Major Ricky Gardner of the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office said the body will be sent to the state medical examiner for an autopsy but all indications are that the toddler drowned.
Farley and his family were on vacation from Fort Worth, Texas, and were scheduled to leave Thursday before the boy went missing.
