The Danville Police Department was awarded accreditation for the second time from The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc (CALEA) on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at their conference in Tucson, Arizona.
The Department received its initial accreditation from CALEA, considered by many the gold standard in public safety accreditation, in 2022 following a process that began in 2020. CALEA accreditation is centered on state-of-the-art standards in four core areas: policy and procedures, administration, operations, and support services. Through a rigorous process, the Department met their standards and proved compliance on 185 standards through agency practices and policy. The Department is now accredited by CALEA through 2030.
In addition to this accomplishment, the Department is also accredited at the state level through the Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission (VLEPSC). For 31 years the Department has maintained VLEPSC accreditation, with the eighth reaccreditation set for 2027.
