A woman that was missing from Rockingham County for over 24 years has now been arrested. According to the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office, after consultation with the District Attorney’s Office and further investigation, an outstanding Order for Arrest was found for Michele Hundley Smith for Failure to Appear.

The Order for Arrest stemmed from a DWI charge issued by the Eden Police Department on November 11, 2001. Michele Hundley Smith failed to appear in court on December 27, 2001, for this charge.

On February 25, Smith was taken into custody by the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office at the request of Rockingham County authorities. She posted bond and is scheduled to appear in Rockingham County District Court on March 26.

Smith was located on February 20, after she was reported missing in December of 2001. Smith had been missing since December 9, 2001 when, according to her husband, she went Christmas shopping at the K-Mart in Martinsville and never returned home.
