Here is the situation report for Danville at 7:30 a.m. Sunday:

  • Snow ended overnight. Official snowfall totals are not yet available. Reports from across the city vary, with estimates generally around 6 inches and higher in some areas.
  • The temperature is 17 degrees, with a wind chill of 3. Sunny skies are expected, with highs around 30 degrees today.
  • The Temporary Relief & Counseling Center (TRCC) at 625 Shelton St. is operating a 24-hour warming center for any resident or visitor in need of shelter.
  • Major thoroughfares have been plowed, but some areas are not clear to pavement due to a late burst of snow overnight and low temperatures. Crews are sanding icy spots this morning and will move into residential neighborhoods this afternoon. With 700 lane miles citywide, it takes 36 to 48 hours to reach all residential streets. Because of the icy layer from last weekend’s storm, residential streets will not be clear to pavement until temperatures rise above freezing later this week.
  • The Danville Police Department reports there was one weather related crash last night.
  • Danville Utilities reports no power outages currently.
  • Danville Transit will decide later today whether service will run on Monday. Customers are encouraged to sign up for service text alerts by texting dtudate to 24541.

Closures and cancellations

  • The Danville Visitor Center will be closed today.
  • Danville Regional Airport is closed.
