Here is the situation report for Danville at 6 pm Sunday:

  • Frigid temperatures will be the main concern overnight. The temperature is currently 31 degrees, with a wind chill of 21. Clear skies are expected, with overnight lows in the low teens and wind chills near zero or a few degrees below.
  • The Temporary Relief & Counseling Center (TRCC) at 625 Shelton St. is operating a 24-hour warming center for any resident or visitor in need of shelter. The House of Hope at 206 South Ridge St. will provide shelter from 5 p.m. to 7 a.m.
  • Public Works crews began plowing and sanding residential neighborhoods today and will continue overnight. With 700 lane miles citywide, it takes 36 to 48 hours to reach all residential streets. Because of lingering ice from last weekend’s storm, residential streets will not be clear to pavement until temperatures rise above freezing. Highs of 40 degrees Monday and 46 degrees Tuesday are expected.
  • Danville Transit will resume door-to-door service at 4 a.m. Monday. Fixed routes will begin at 6 a.m., with regular routing on all lines except Route 4 (Health Center). Due to road conditions, Route 4 will not serve Broadnax, Betts, Walters Mill Road, Blaine, Garfield, and Grant streets until later Monday. Customers can receive service updates by texting dtupdate to 24541.
  • The Police Department reports four weather-related accident today.
  • Danville Utilities reports one power outage currently, affecting one customer.

Closures and cancellations

  • Danville Public Schools will be closed on Monday, employee code 6.
  • Danville Regional Airport is closed.
