Last night the Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors and Planning Commission held a joint meeting to discuss rezoning a large piece of land. The Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors requested to rezone multiple properties totaling 3,500 acres in the Tunstall and Westover Election Districts  from M-2, Industrial District- Heavy Industry, to a new Zoning District, M-SVMS, to allow the properties to be used for heavy industry and power generation.

The property is located at the Southern Virginia Megasite at Route 311 and Harvell-Saunders Parkway. Several county citizens attended the meeting to speak against the zoning with a few speaking in favor.

Tunstall District Supervisor Vic Ingram voted in favor of the rezoning.

The rezoning passed unanimously with the board of supervisors citing the need for economic growth in the area.
