Virginia State Police are investigating a two-vehicle crash that claimed two lives Friday afternoon in Halifax County. The crash occurred just before 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 26 on Cody Road.

A 2015 Nissan Pathfinder, driven by Melvyn Malik Crutchfield, 28, of Lynchburg, crossed the center line and struck a 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis head-on. The Mercury was driven by Olin “Carson” Riddle Jr., 82, of Nathalie.

Both drivers died at the scene. Riddle was wearing a seat belt; Crutchfield was not. Investigators say there is no indication that alcohol or drugs contributed to the crash. The crash remains under investigation.
