A Halifax County man was killed in a crash on Saturday. Virginia State Police are investigating the single-vehicle crash that occurred on Oak Level Road, approximately 1.5 miles south of Mountain Road in Halifax County.

A 1986 Chevrolet Camaro ran off the right side of the roadway, overcorrected, and overturned. The driver, Kendrick Nakeith Powell, 57, of Halifax, was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Powell was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Preliminary investigations indicate speed was a contributing factor. The crash remains under investigation.
