As 2025 concludes, God’s Pit Crew continues its long-term recovery mission in East Tennessee following Hurricane Helene’s devastating impact in September 2024. Shortly before Christmas, God’s Pit Crew volunteers have provided two brand-new, fully furnished homes – one to Chrissy Miller in Hartford, Tennessee, and one to Amanda Forester in Newport, Tennessee.
For both homeowners, the moment marked a powerful turning point after months of loss and uncertainty.
As Chrissy Miller approached her new home for the first time, she was overcome with emotion, saying, “I can’t believe the landscaping and everything. This is so pretty. I can’t wait… it’s so beautiful.”
Taking a deep breath as she stepped inside, Miller paused and exhaled, “I don’t even know where to begin.”
While touring her home through tears, she added, “It’s the little things – being able to take a bath is amazing. You know, take a nap on a couch.”
Nearby in Newport, Amanda Forester was presented with the keys to her new home by God’s Pit Crew building team volunteer, Rick Schlaginhaufen, who shared: “On behalf of God’s Pit Crew and all of the volunteers here, we’d like to present you with the keys to your new home. We wish you God’s blessings as you enjoy your new home.”
God’s Pit Crew building team volunteer, Leon Bridges, echoed the heart behind the mission, saying, “You see all of these red trucks and red shirts here – we’re just the Lord’s hands and feet. We’re just as blessed as you are to get to work on your new home.”
With gratitude, Forester responded, “Thank you. It’s just utterly amazing. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for helping me rewrite my story.”
These two homes bring the total number of new homes provided by God’s Pit Crew in 2025 to 32 across East Tennessee, Western North Carolina, and Southwest Virginia. Additional homes are already in production and will be completed in 2026 as recovery efforts continue.
