One person was killed during a house fire in Eden on Wednesday. According to the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to 1018 Person St in Eden in regard to a house fire.

The responding deputy was advised by neighbors they believed an elderly person was still inside. The deputy made every attempt to enter the residence, but the fire had overtaken the residence, and he was not able to do so.

Fire crews from the Eden City Fire Department, Draper Fire Department, Leakesville Fire Department, and Shiloh Fire Department arrived on scene and extinguished the fire. Shortly after a deceased individual was located inside the residence.

The Rockingham County Fire Marshal’s Office requested the Arson Task Force to respond and investigate the fire scene. The fire is believed to be accidental, and the cause is still under investigation. The name of the victim is not being disclosed at this time pending family notification and identification.
