The man who attacked and burned Danville City Councilman Lee Vogler has been found competent to stand trial. A judge has ruled that Shotsie Michael Buck-Hayes is competent to stand trial after a psychological evaluation.
Buck-Hayes was previously indicted on charges of Attempted First-Degree Murder, Aggravated Malicious Wounding, and Breaking and Entering While Armed With a Deadly Weapon.
Buck-Hayes is currently being held at the Danville City Jail. If convicted on all three charges he could be facing a sentence between 40 years and life in prison.
The attack occurred on July 30 when Buck-Hayes entered the office of Showcase Magazine. After entering the building he doused Vogler with gasoline and then set him on fire.
Vogler sustained burns to about 60% of his body in the attack.
