The Danville Office of Economic Development & Tourism (DOEDT), in partnership with the River District Association (RDA), will host the final community engagement workshop for Plan Mechanicsville, a strategic initiative aimed at revitalizing the historic Mechanicsville District, on Saturday, November 15, from 12-3pm, at 200 North Union Street, Danville.
The Plan Mechanicsville Block Party is a free family-friendly event that will provide residents and visitors with insight into the planning process, offering a platform to share ideas and feedback on the district’s future. This celebration will feature food trucks, live music, children’s activities, and giveaways for all participants.
Samantha Bagbey, DOEDT Project Manager, said, “Whether you’ve lived in Danville your whole life, recently moved to the area, run a business here, or dine, shop, and play downtown, your perspective is crucial to the future of the River District. This event is centered around elevating our community’s voices and shaping a shared vision for our city’s development.”
Plan Mechanicsville marks Phase 2 of the River District Redevelopment Plan, building on the district’s momentum as a vibrant center for business and residential life. This initiative will be developed in three phases: Community Assessment, Community Workshops, and Plan Development. The final master plan is expected to be completed by Spring of 2026 and will combine professional expertise with community input to produce a clear vision and direction for the future of this historic neighborhood.
Rachel Covington, RDA Past-Chair and Project Committee Member, states, “Our community’s voice is essential as we shape the next chapter of the River District. This plan isn’t just about buildings or streets. It’s about honoring the people, stories, and history that define who we are today. The history of this district belongs to all of us. Together, we have the opportunity to build a future that reflects our shared pride in that history and our shared responsibility to carry it forward.”
The Mechanicsville District is defined by the boundaries of Poplar Street, North Ridge Street, High Street, and Memorial Drive.
This event is free to attend. Residents are invited to complete the community survey at htps://www.surveymonkey.com/r/planmechanicsville and visit htps://ourmechanicsville.com/ for additional information.
