The Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of the person that was killed during an officer involved shooting earlier this month. 31-year-old Shavon Curtis Smith was killed during the incident on October 7 when he fired a weapon several times at deputies attempting to serve arrest warrants on him at his residence at 191 Dennis Dr. in Reidsville.
Deputies returned fire striking Smith several times. Deputies immediately provided medical care; however, Smith succumbed to his wounds.
The Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office says the decision to release the name of the deceased comes after exhausting all attempts to contact family members listed in databases both in North Carolina and across the country by both the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office and the NC State Bureau of Investigation (SBI). Anyone with any information in regard to this incident or the individual involved, please contact the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office at 336-634-3232 or the NC State Bureau of Investigation (SBI).
