The man charged with attacking and burning Danville City Councilman Lee Vogler appeared in court on Tuesday for a preliminary hearing. Shotsie Michael Buck-Hayes has been charged with attempted first-degree murder and aggravated malicious wounding.

During the hearing, Sgt. Clay with the Danville Police Department testified that Buck-Hayes said after the attack that “his wife had an affair with the person he set on fire.” Sgt. Clay also testified that Buck-Hayes said his intent was to kill Vogler.

Lee’s Wife, Blair Vogler, testified that he suffered burns to 60% of his body during the attack and an additional 35% has been used for skin grafting.

An employee of Showcase Magazine also testified about the attack on Tuesday. He went into detail about witnessing the attack and seeing Vogler’s injuries following the attack.

Vogler has been hospitalized at the UNC Burn Unit since the attack occurred on July 30. Blair Vogler said last week in an update that Vogler recently underwent what they hope will be his last skin graft surgery.

Buck-Hayes is scheduled to appear in court again on October 27.
