
A member of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office has been recognized with the Virginia Sheriff’s Association’s highest honor. Last week the association recognized Lieutenant Joey Adams with the Valor Award during a conference in Virginia Beach.
Adams was recognized with the award for his actions 0n March 17, 2023. At 1 am, Adams responded to a call from a female victim stating that her ex-boyfriend had broken into her home.
Once on scene, Lt. Adams witnessed a male subject forcibly pulling a female victim out of the home while she was holding a small child. The man then threw the woman and child onto the porch and fired a semi-automatic pistol as the woman attempted to escape.
Lt. Adams then fired his weapon at the assailant, who then ran into the woods. Adams then rushed to the victim to assess her injuries and make sure the child was unharmed.
Lt. Adams then assisted the victim to his patrol vehicle and drove her to the Clover Fire Department where she received medical attention before being taken to the hospital.
Lt. Adams has been a member of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office since 2007. He was nominated for the Valor Award by Sheriff Fred Clark.
