Lauren Scearce, RN of Sovah HealthDanville was honored today with The DAISY Award® For Extraordinary Nurses. The award is part of the DAISY Foundation’s programs to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day.

Lauren, who works in the labor and delivery department at Sovah Health – Danville’s campus, was nominated by a patient who credits the nurse for being patient and kind, making her as comfortable as possible. “I mentioned a natural birth and even with all the pain I was going through, she never tried to talk me out of it. If it weren’t for the compassion and patience I was shown by Lauren, I honestly don’t know how things could’ve ended. She kept me distracted and focused on the task at hand.” Lauren went the extra mile to help her patient feel at ease. “I pray the most beautiful babies find their way to her and I hope every overstimulated, exhausted mama gets someone as great as Lauren to help them through the scariest and magical things that happen on this day.” Moments like this truly showcase what an exceptional nurse Lauren is.

The not-for-profit DAISY Foundation is based in Glen Ellen, CA, and was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes.  Patrick died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little known but not uncommon auto-immune disease.  The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.

“When Patrick was critically ill, our family experienced first-hand the remarkable skill and care nurses provide patients every day and night,” said Bonnie Barnes, FAAN, CEO and Co-Founder of The DAISY Foundation. “Yet these unsung heroes are seldom recognized for the super-human work they do.  The kind of work the nurses at Sovah Health are called on to do every day epitomizes the purpose of The DAISY Award.”

“This recognition is a testament to the extraordinary compassion, clinical excellence, and unwavering dedication Lauren brings to every patient interaction,” said Jane Ritter, Interim Market Chief Nursing Officer at Sovah Health. “The DAISY Award honors nurses who go above and beyond—and she exemplifies that spirit in every way. We are proud to have Lauren as part of our team and grateful for the profound impact she makes on moms in our community.”
