In response to the catastrophic flooding that struck Central Texas in July, God’s Pit Crew, a non-profit disaster response organization based in Danville, Virginia, launched critical relief efforts throughout multiple communities, including Kerrville, Marble Falls, and Leander, Texas. The deadly floods left homes uninhabitable, families displaced, and entire communities overwhelmed – but thanks to the rapid mobilization of God’s Pit Crew and its network of compassionate volunteers and partners, tangible hope is arriving in the form of critical supplies and hands-on help.
Since the flooding, multiple semi truckloads of emergency relief items have been delivered into the hardest-hit areas. This includes pallets of Blessing Buckets, each filled with bottled water, shelf-stable food, hygiene items, a Bible, and more – alongside Play Pails designed specifically for children, packed with toys and comfort items to provide joy and distraction amid chaos. These supplies are just the beginning.
On the ground, God’s Pit Crew’s Immediate Response volunteer teams are actively working to clean out flooded homes, remove waterlogged debris, remediate dangerous mold, and install new sheetrock and drywall – all vital steps in helping families begin to rebuild their lives. These efforts are bringing not just physical restoration but emotional relief to families who have lost nearly everything. Life-sustaining items such as generators have also been distributed to help power recovery efforts, including at Camp Mystic, a cherished location in the region that experienced overwhelming tragedy.
“These are heartbreaking situations,” said Randy Johnson, President and Founder of God’s Pit Crew. “But we continue to push forward and help however possible. Our goal is to meet people with hope, compassion, and practical aid that helps them take the next step toward recovery.”
While Central Texas is receiving active emergency assistance, the ministry’s commitment to long-term disaster recovery continues elsewhere. God’s Pit Crew is still answering the call to serve communities impacted by Hurricane Helene, which devastated parts of Western North Carolina, East Tennessee, and Southwest Virginia last year. Since then, the ministry’s Build Team has provided 27 brand-new, fully furnished homes to displaced families and individuals – with several more currently under construction and scheduled for reveal in the coming weeks.
Each brand-new home provided includes everything a family needs to begin again: furniture, appliances, bedding, and even décor. Every detail is provided with love and care – at no cost to the recipient.
“We are so thankful for every person, church, business, and organization that steps up and says, ‘Yes, I want to help,’” said Johnson. “Disasters are overwhelming but when we come together, we can make a life-changing difference.”
